The idea behind it
Built on reminiscence.
Reminiscence is the practice of revisiting a life through photographs and familiar things — with other people, out loud. It has been used in care settings and living rooms for decades, and studied by researchers in psychology and gerontology. Personal photographs are the most common prompt, because a specific image opens a specific story where an open question often doesn't. The practice isn't looking at old pictures. It's being asked, and being heard.
Memtastic is a family storytelling service. It is not a medical device, treatment, or therapy, it does not diagnose or assess anyone, and we make no claims about health outcomes. Research on reminiscence describes the practice as a field; it is not a claim about this product. Memtastic is meant to sit alongside the care you already give.

What families ask before they start.
My parent can barely use their phone. Will this work?
If they can read a text and tap a link, yes. There's no app to install. You send them an invite, and once they sign in with their phone number, memories — a photo and a prompt — arrive as a text. They can enjoy a simple reflection, or tap the link to have a conversation.
Who can see what they share?
Only the people you invite. You added the photo, so that memory is yours to control: you choose who joins, and what stays private.
Is this a memory test or a health tool?
No. Memtastic never quizzes, scores, or assesses anyone, and it isn't a medical device, therapy, or treatment. It's a family storytelling service built on reminiscence practice — the questions are warm and open, and there are no wrong answers.
My parent has dementia. Is this appropriate?
Many families in that situation use Memtastic, because older photographs are often the easiest thing to talk about. You can help them sign in, and the invite goes to their phone. Nothing is timed or scored, unanswered messages wait, and you control the pace. We can't tell you whether it's right for your parent specifically — their care team knows them and we don't.
